Day 46, August 21st, 37.28km and 707m climb. Polebridge North Fork Hostel to Upper Whitefish Lake campsite.
As promised, we had breakfast at the Polebridge Mercantile and Bakery. Bearclaws and savory rolls. We were also given a fruit fritter to take for free as we are on our bikes. Yay!

We climbed back up out of Polebridge to rejoin the Divide route. It was definitely worth the 9km each way diversion even though the gravel road was mostly washboard (corrugations) both ways!
Once back on route we started the real climb of the day up to Red Pass, our third official crossing of the Divide. It was a relatively smooth climb with a pinch toward the end but all rideable before topping out at the most stunning wee lake nestled right on the pass. There is a campground here too that we would have stayed at had we not gone to Polebridge. But as it was only lunchtime we pushed onto the next campsite at Upper Whitefish Lake. This is also a stunning g spot but quite a lot busier and we are very disappointed that this is the first site with no toilet paper! Still, lucky we have our own supply!

The other downside to this spot is that the water is from the stream that drains from the lake. We were not too keen on that so I went for a walk up behind the camp with my can of bear spray and water bag to find something better. I found a swamp with a wee trickle draining into it which did the trick.
