Day 45, August 20th, 45.3km and 219m climb, Tuchuck campsite to Polebridge North Fork Hostel (camping)
A nice easy downhill day today. We were away from camp before 0830 and immediately headed downhill. A slightly cool start this morning although sleeping with the tent fly open perhaps didn't help. But it is too warm when we go to bed to close it.

Polebridge was recommended as a must see for touring cyclists by a couple of different people, so at about the 30km mark we headed off route. Polebridge comprises a saloon, a mercantile and a hostel. It is also a gateway to Glacier National Park.
Polebridge is also famous for its huckleberry bearclaw pastries which are delicious. We plan to stop in for breakfast to partake in another of these delicacies.

While consuming our first Bearpaw we met a bunch of really interesting people. First up was Hoss who shared with us the history of Polebridge and also invited us to visit him at his summer place on the Baja Peninsula when we get there. Then we met two couples who were interested in our trip with whom we did an informal currency exchange as two of them were heading to Banff ( hope you guys enjoy your trip!). And finally we spent the evening with Oliver who runs the hostel. He turned up here to stay back in the early 90s and didn't leave! It's a great wee place with options to tent, stay in a hostel room, a teepee, several renovated caravans or an old bus. We are camping just for a change!

The fire to the north of us is making everything very hazy so our views today were stunning but not super clear. Today I also rode with a buff over my nose and mouth for the first time. This certainly helped with the smokiness.
We will head back on route tomorrow for the climb up to Red Meadow Pass.
