Hi, we're Jill and Gordon and this blog is designed to capture our bikepacking adventures through the America's. We've taken a year off work to follow our dream of riding the Divide - a 3000 mile route from Banff, Canada to Antelope Wells on the US Mexico border in New Mexico. We decided it would be fun to ride there first and then we decided to add Mexico as well. That was the plan anyway. See below for what actually happened!
We will be riding slow. This year Gordon was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease so our trip will be based around what feels manageable on a daily basis. We may ride 20km or we may ride 100. If we find somewhere nice to stop for a few days then we might just do that. You can follow us on our tracker if you'd like to see exactly where we are. Check out the 'where are we right now page'.
Update
We did the ride across BC to Banff following the BC Trail. Then we headed south on the GDMBR making it as far as Southern Colorado before the snow arrived in late October. This resulted in a wee change of plans. We grabbed an Escape campervan, loaded the bikes and headed off to visit the national parks of Utah. After 2 weeks of sightseeing, we jumped back on the bikes and headed south to San Diego to do the So Cal Desert Ramble. We landed back in NZ in early January after a successful 6 months on the bikes and have now embarked on a road trip in our van with our mountain bikes on the back. Gordon's Parkinsons Disease has made the touring hard work for him and despite achieving so much in our 6 months away, we needed to come home for a medication review and revise our plans. Part 2 of our blog is all about our life in the van and our next new adventures including 6 weeks in Samoa.
