Day 43, welcome to the US of A!

Day 43, August 18th, 53.4km and 511m climb, Edward's Lake campsite to Graves Creek campsite Montana

Well we've finally made it into the US of A. We broke camp in a a relaxed manner, even had a little sleep in until 7am. It was only 15km to the border and mostly downhill so we made good time. Crossing in to Montana was pretty straightforward, a few questions and a stamp in the passport and we were good to go.

Montana felt different. It seemed a little more affluent and it was a tar sealed road all day today. We stopped in Eureka for lunch and spent a couple of hours outside the library using their wifi and lawn. We stocked up on food as we will be off grid for the next 4 days. Unfortunately we forgot to top up the battery packs so things may get a bit tight later on in that regard.

We are stopped at our first US Forest Service camp which we are sharing with Brian who we met at the border today. He is heading south as well although moving a lot quicker than us! We groveled into camp and found him already here so piggy backed in. It's a lovely wee spot right on the river with bear bins at each site, a loo with toilet paper and it's all free.

Food seems a bit cheaper too thankfully even though it is in US$ and the exchange rate isn't great. Hopefully we will find it easier to stay in budget here.

The next crossing of the Divide is tomorrow so a fair old climb ahead of us. Off to bed early!
