Friday 22nd July, Arlington Lakes to Little Dipper Hideaway, 57km and 24m climb. 32 degrees.
Today went well. An early start (for us) meant we reached Beaverdell by 1030 after a lovely cool ride along classic KVR trail downhill. Beaverdell has a general store and food caravan so we took the opportunity to replenish our food supplies and our tummies. The store also let us charge our very depleted battery packs and refill our water supplies at no cost and happily. Big ups to the Beaverdell General Store.

We sat at a table with a picnic umbrella and had a hamburger and coke while we waited for our recharge needs to be fulfilled so we're probably there for about 3 hours. We'd only ridden 30kms and Gordon was feeling good ao we pushed on.

The trail after Beaverdell was different with a mix of single track, gravel road and slightly technical bits which was a nice change from the ATV sandy surface we were used to.

We had met a rider heading the other way earlier in the day and he recommended we stay at Little Dipper which is a beautiful park by the river and home to a number of holiday RV sites most of which were unoccupied. We met two other cyclists staying the night who are heading opposite to us and a German family with a 6 and 3 year old who are touring around Canada heading a similar direction to us. They plan to stay a few days though and enjoy the park.

Apparently there was a bear spotted in the campground a couple of days ago so everyone is being very bear aware. Our food is shut away and out bikes are locked some distance from our tent. We have our bear spray to hand as well. We are super cautious never to have food in the tent so hopefully everything will be fine.

We have ridden 675km from Vancouver and climbed 6000m. My Garmin tells me we have acclimated to 900m ASL as well as we have spent the past 4 days over 1000m in elevation. That's a good start but lots more climbing to come! Tomorrow will be mostly downhill again before we start climbing toward the end of the day.

You might finally get to see a bear
It was great meeting you at the Little Dipper Hideaway. Wishing you smooth travels! Let us know if you come through Kelowna and need anything.
Sleeping in a tent in bear country. I think I would be nervous of any noise or getting g up at night for toilet. Enjoying our blog what a wonderful adventure
