Day 46, Pacific Sojourn, June 1, David Parker Eco Lodge to LaUaina Resort, 36km
After a lovely breakfast looking out over the tree canopy toward Apia, we headed off down the drive way, stopping at the bottom to go in hunt of the waterfall. We definitely found a waterfall, but it way to it was nothing like how it was described to us so we suspect there might be another one somewhere nearby. Next time!
We dropped down off the hill and into Apia where Independence Day celebrations had just finished. It was pretty busy on the streets but we safely navigated ourselves through town and out the other side to start heading along the coast. This coastline is quite different from what we have seen elsewhere with steep cliffs and hills dropping straight down to the road and beach for much of what we rode today. More like the Coromandel in places with creeks, rivers and waterfalls all coming down out of the hills. Much of it had little in the way of Reef with the waves coming straight into the shoreline.
Lots of people out and about enjoying their day off work and school. BBQs were out en masse and lots of people in swimming. The riding was mostly flat and we met another cyclist and stopped for a chat as well. Only the second cyclist we've seen on the whole trip.

Tonight we are staying at La Uaina resort as it is the only accommodation along this part of the coast. So our second night of luxury in a row with an ensuite bathroom and a fridge! I went for a quick snorkel out the front and Gordon went for a swim in the pool. The snorkeling was ok. No established reef, but still plenty of fish and some huge blue starfish to keep things interesting. Tomorrow we have quite a big day as we head down to the South Coast and back to our beachfront fale lifestyle.
