Day 45, Pacific Sojourn, May 31st, Salelaloga to David Parker Eco Lodge somewhere above Apia, 37km
We took the 8am ferry from Savaii to Upolu. A very rocky crossing but comfortable enough in the air conditioned cabin. Another very sunny day, so hot riding with quite a bit more traffic along the main road. We stopped a couple of times along the way, once for oranges and fresh coconut and once to stock up for dinner.
After 20km or so, we turned off the main road and headed into the hills. A good solid climb up to 400m brought us to the David Parker Eco Lodge where we are staying the night. The Lodge is perched on the side of the hill, deep in the rain forest but with stunning views back down toward Apia and the lagoon. The room is pure luxury for us with towels provided along with soap, a fridge and a microwave. Our most upmarket accommodation yet.
There is a pool and a waterfall but we didn't partake in either as it started to rain shortly after our arrival. We'll wander down to the waterfall on our way out but the thought of the climb back up the hill today was enough to leave us relaxing in our room enjoying the view instead. I should mention that the final climb up to the Lodge is a close to 20% gradient for about 300 meters. Pushed our legs and e bikes to the max! Made it though. David Parker Eco Lodge is a stunning place and we'd highly recommend it.
