Day 38, Pacific Sojourn, May 24, 32km, Lano to Manase

A pretty relaxed start to the day today. It rained heavily overnight and was still a bit damp this morning so we didn't rush. Breakfast was served at 0730 and comprised two bananas, creamed rice equivalent, two boiled eggs and two slices of bread. Good riding fodder. This is the second time we have stayed at Lauiula and they didn't disappoint. Normally we would have stayed in an opensided fale but they were full when we booked so we had a wee cabin with a fan and a fridge and a chair and a porch. Quite luxurious but a bit warm.

We headed off at about 9am and rode most of the way without power. The hills were not particularly steep and the ebikes ride pretty well with no power so we kept it off unless really required. Due to the on and off rain, our only real stop was at the Lava Church which Gordon hadn't visited last time we were here. I convinced him to go for a wander while I stayed with the bikes and he came back thinking it was well worth while.

We stopped a little further up the coast to pick up some lunch before heading to our accommodation for the next two nights at Tanu Beach Fales. $80 Tala each per night includes dinner and breakfast and a beachfront fale. We are perched directly above the ocean looking straight out across the Reef. Our plan is snorkeling and reading for the afternoon. This is not a place used by Outdoor Samoa so it will be interesting to see how it goes. The facilities seem clean but no soap or towel. Other than that, dinner was outstanding with a large serving of veggies along with fish and chicken, breadfruit and rice. They also catered really well for the vegetarians at the table. So far so good!
