Day 39, Pacific Sojourn, May 25, Tanu Beach Fales, Manase

A very quiet day comprising snorkeling, swimming, eating and reading. At about midnight last night, a huge squall came in and it was all hands to the deck trying to get the sides down on the fale. Strong winds and rain, thunder and lightning for about 30 minutes. At breakfast this morning, one of the other guests who had only just arrived thought it was a cyclone and another couple thought their roof was going to blow off. After having experienced several of these storms since arriving, along with our experience in the tent in the Wyoming desert where we were stuck right in the middle of a thunderstorm and thought we were going to die, we just put the sides down and went back to sleep feeling very safe indeed!

Breakfast was excellent, comprising esse (pawpaw), coconut, a vegetable omlette, a pancake, a slice of orange and two bits of toast. We have to say we are very impressed with the food here!

The snorkeling is ok but we have yet to see anything that equals Falealupo where we are heading tomorrow. Hopefully it lives up to what we remember. Here the Reef is quite bleached although there are still some great schools of fish that it is fun to hang out with. I saw a Turtle from the bank but didn't see it once I was in swimming.

We popped over to Stevensons Reaort next door for some lunch and did very little else for the rest of the day. Our intention of riding up Mt Matavanu came to nothing. Feeling lazy but back on the bikes tomorrow when we will hopefully redeem ourselves.
