Day 37, Pacific Sojourn, 45.5km, Outdoor Samoa to Lauiula Beach Fales
We're back on the road again! I had an unexpected trip to the giant clams this morning but by midday we were just about ready to head off to the ferry. We did a very quick debrief with Ross and Frances who arrived late last night and then we were on our way.
First stop was the ferry to Savaii 3km down the road. I love watching the loading and unloading of the ferry. It all seems frantic for about 5 minutes and all of a sudden everyone is on board and we are on our way. It's the only ferry I've ever been on that leaves consistently early!
It was a little bit rocky crossing over and the air conditioned lounge was full so we sat out the back. The heat doesn't bother us nearly as much as it used to even though it is just as warm. The bikes made it safely across sexured to the side and after a quick stop at the ANZ to top up the coffers, we were on our way. Savaii is predominantly more remote than Upolu but this first 20km ride is mostly through villages. Only a couple of 'friendly' dogs along the way but lots of 'bye byes' from the hundreds of children that were out and about. A lot of people were taking advantage of the slightly cooler evening temperatures to work in their gardens and a lot of the kids were clearly under strict instructions to help.

We stopped for a swim at the freshwater pool by the John Williams Memorial before moseying along to our accommodation for the night at the Lauiula Beach Fales. We stayed here last time and it was nice to be remembered. The e bikes make light work of it all. It's a little like riding downhill all day. I'm not sure we're likely to increase our fitness much but it sure makes for a pleasant day out! We might try a different approach tomorrow and try riding without power.
Dinner was as good as last time and we were off to bed early. Time to get into holiday mode.
