Days 28-31, Pacific Sojourn,  May 14 - 17

Pick ups, drop offs and more pick ups and drop offs. No, not really but this week sure has felt like it! We've had a mix of groups through from freedom cyclists (who just hire bikes and panniers and head off to do their own thing) to multi day supported tour groups heading to Savaii and Upolu respectively. We've also had three different groups doing multi day kayaking trips and with the odd airport transfer thrown in, we've been busy! We've also had a holiday. This week was Mother's Day and here in Samoa, the Monday becomes a Public Holiday.  What a great idea! It's widely celebrated and many of the churches have banners up. See above for my favourite church on the way to the clams and Turtle Kayak and below for the church just along the road from us. Given that many villages have three churches, there are plenty of photo opportunities.

With Ross still away, the team are holding up well and we've so far managed to keep the ship afloat. Not much time for our own adventures, but we have managed to get out for some mountainbiking and Gordon has been getting more kayaking in. I'm home by myself tonight as he is off supporting an overnight trip to Manono Island. The day before he was doing another Turtle Kayak and we have another one of those on Friday. We'll they do say that exercise is good for those with Parkinsons Disease!

We are enjoying meeting lots of different people coming in on trips as well as plenty of locals as well. People are starting to get used to seeing me as I do my mountainbike loop into the villages behind us. I ride in a t shirt with a lavalava over my cycle shorts, especially if I am by myself. This is surprisingly comfortable and appropriate attire for the villages.  In the resorts it's ok to wander around in a bikini, but in the villages,  it is important to dress more respectfully. I've got a couple of lavalavas now and might pick up another one before heading home. They are very versatile pieces of clothing!
