Day 21, Pacific Sojourn,  May 7, a day off

Today was the first day we've had a chance to sleep in since we got here! The team have the day off today as there was only two returns scheduled for later in the day which we could easily handle. So it was a cruisy start to the day even though we still woke up at the usual time.

We did a bit of housekeeping and got the washing hung out before Gordon and I grabbed a couple of the full suspension bikes and headed off to do an extended loop of the ride Lulu and I did on e bikes earlier in the week. It was another stunning, sunny day so we are glad we headed out early. Nice to get the legs moving.

After reaching the point Lulu and I got to, Gordon and I kept going, ending up on an overgrown trail that wound through several homesteads (for want of a better description) before eventually emerging back down on the coast road. We stopped to chat with a young boy pushing a large wheelbarrow full of bananas up the track quite a ways from anywhere. I wish I'd remembered to grab a photo of him. He would have been about 8 years old and we tried to imagine our kids doing the same at that age. It was difficult to conjure up a similar picture.

The afternoon was spent reading and eating. Generally how all good tropical holidays should be spent. After the bike returns, we cooled off with a swim. We often don masks, snorkels and flippers and do a few lengths. It's really the only form of exercise that is actually comfortable to do here!
