Days 19 and 20, Pacific Sojourn,  May 5th and 6th, rain, rain and glorious sun!

Yesterday it rained and rained and rained! Actually there is not a lot more to say! I did an airport pick up with Jesse and did enjoy seeing the newly returned RSE workers in their red band gumboots arriving off the plane and seeing their families for the first time in 7 months. After that we helped the family we collected put together their bikes and ride off into the rain with their 2 year old tucked up in his trailer. The lightening was pretty spectacular but overall, it was not a beach day.

Today was the complete opposite with glorious sunshine all day. In fact we think it is the first day we haven't had a rain shower. We collected a large group from their accommodation and set them up with hire bikes before packing them off to the ferry and over to Savaii. Then Gordon and I hopped in the car and headed into Apia to pick up a couple of bikes from a group finishing an Upolu tour there. We had a quick chat with the tour party for some feedback before we headed to the Palolo Deep, a marine reserve with some great snorkeling just a few minutes from downtown Apia. The coral was ok but the schools of fish were amazing. I felt like I was swimming in a very busy fishtank! There was quite a strong current which made it a little challenging to get to the actual Deep so we might have to go back another time.

It was close on dark by the time we left Apia and drove home. Everyone was out on the roads walking to and from volley ball and touch rugby, the BBQs were burning at full force and there were plenty of cars with some interesting light arrays roaming the streets. All quite entertaining and the first time we have really been out at night.
