Day 13, Pacific Sojourn, Apia
Today we did a road trip into Apia. Ross had some shopping to do and we went for a wander around town. First stop was the fish market with a wonderful array of fish, octopus, crabs and lobster. There were even some very tropical looking fish that we could have sworn we were swimming with yesterday! From there we wandered around some shops and to the park adjacent to the Cultural Centre. The Cultural Centre was closed but the park was nice and we could see across the bay to the shipping port. As per usual, she was pretty warm out so we found a lovely Cafe called Nourish where we spent a good hour in air conditioned luxury chatting and planning. From there it was off to the fruit and vege market where we met Ross to top up on the weeks fruit and vege supply. Bananas, avocado, esse, limes, pawpaw, ginger, oranges, taro and coconuts were all in abundance.

After stocking up we headed up the hill behind Apia to the Tiapapata Art Centre. This sits at around 500m above sea level so was several degrees cooler than down in Apia. The Art Centre sits in a beautiful tropical garden, has a cafe and wonderful views down to the sea. We enjoyed a peaceful lunch before heading back to base.
Apia is a busy wee place with people heading in all directions, markets, stalls and shops. It even has a McDonald's which we did not avail ourselves of! Being Saturday, everything closed at 1pm and does not reopen until Monday. Just like life used to be back home! Somehow we survived back then and I'm sure we would now too. They certainly manage here in Samoa!
