Day 10, Pacific Sojourn, April 26th, Satuiatua to Outdoor Samoa headquarters 15km ride, 35km road transfer, 25km ferry, 3km ride

Back home today! Or at least back to our new home at the Outdoor Samoa HQ.  Today was the final day of the Savaii Taster tour we have been accompanying. We started with a yummy breakfast before heading off for a 15km ride to the blowholes. Gordon and I didn't go out to the blowholes but will do so when we return later in May. Even so, the sea views from the entry point are still spectacular. There is no reef on this part of the coast so the sea rolls straight into the cliffs, thundering in with some massive waves.

After the blow holes we did a vehicle transfer via a waterfall to the ferry terminal. Gordon and I had all the group's suitcases and bags in the car for the crossing so headed off before the group to make the ferry line up on time. All went well and the crossing was relatively smooth. I joined the group again on the bikes for the final 3km ride back to HQ. Everyone I think enjoyed the four days with a good mixture of riding and sightseeing. Not much relaxing though as the Taster is very much a whirlwind tour and I suspect everyone in the group will be ready for a bit of a rest over the next few days.

Meanwhile, we will be back to helping out around HQ with a number of chores lined up for us to help the team with. I'm sure we'll have time for plenty of swims though.

We really enjoyed Savaii and can't wait to get back there at a more leisurely pace on the bikes later in May. It is very hot riding and I think Outdoor Samoa has got it right when they aim for between 20 and 40km per day. While it is possible to do more, and many people do, this leaves little time for all the other activities like snorkeling and swimming. It is also so hot and humid that dehydration and just plain not enjoying it are real risks! We plan to avoid both these risks when we come back on our own freedom tour!
