Day 7, Pacific Sojourn, 23 April, 20km riding, 25km boat ride, Lauiula, Savaii
Finally back on the bike and it feels so nice to be travelling by pedal power again. Today we rode from Outdoor Samoa to the ferry about 3km away. From there we loaded up and crossed to Savaii. Savaii is the largest island in Samoa but the least populated. We are joining the Savaii Taster tour which is a 3 night quick stop tour of the island. Gordon is driving a support vehicle while I ride with the group. We are not the main support as there is a local guide Liu (which is good as we currently know very little except how to set up a bike and ride).
Once we arrived on Savaii, it was a gentle 17km ride out to the Lauiula Fales where we are staying the night. We stopped for a quick swim along the way and arrived with just enough time for another swim before dinner. The fales are very rustic, comprising a shelter with tarpaulin sides for shelter, a mattress and a mosquito net but they sit right on the beach and we look straight out across the lagoon and back toward Upolu. Stunning.
