Day 2, Pacific Sojourn, 18 April, Auckland to Apia

We had an early start from our overnight hotel, heading toward the airport just after 5am. Plenty of time at the Koru club for breakfast before boarding our flight to Apia. It's only a little over three hours from Auckland to Apia so a pretty comfortable flight time. We landed in torrential rain with a thud and a wee skid before exiting into the heat and humidity.  Ross from Outdoor Samoa was waiting for us and helped us get sorted with sim cards, currency exchange and drivers licenses all before leaving the airport.

Our first peek at Samoa had been on landing where we could see the lagoon stretching out to the north west. On departing the airport into the rain, we headed along the main road toward Apia to do a quick grocery and fruit shop before retracing our steps back past the airport and round to the Outdoor Samoa HQ, our home for the next wee while. Ross and Frances have built a great set up for the company with a front reception area for outfitting and to the rear the bike storage and workshop with the house built over the top. We've had a great afternoon settling in, chatting, preparing food, meeting the local staff and getting the lay of the land. The HQ is right across the road from the lagoon so we hope to spend some time snorkeling and exploring in there while we are hear. Lots to see and do as well as work to keep us busy. Should be a great few weeks!
