Days 28 - 31, deep in Central Otago

Days 28 - 31, vanlife,  February 16 - 19, Central Otago

We've done a few things and not much over the past 4 days. After a couple of nights in Alexandra, we headed to Naseby to check out the mountainbike trails. We did a couple of rides over two days and managed to find blackberry,  gorse, pinecones, and some ok single track. Unfortunately, the summer growth has made some of the trails quite overgrown which wasn't so much fun.

We stayed at the local campground which is a friendly spot with a nice laid back kiwi approach. Unfortunately,  we timed it badly with a primary school camping weekend underway. Not sure where they were from but there were hundreds of excited kids mulling around. So not so peaceful but a lovely wee spot adjacent to the riding trails anyway.

From there we made our way to St Bathans and did a walk around the Blue Lake. This is an old mining town with the blue lake created on top of one of the old mine holes. Not very blue while we were there but some great photos of some big, stormy looking clouds as we wandered around. Some locals have begun the process of restoring some of the old buildings and the old post office was well worth the visit.

Tonight we are camped at the St Bathans Domain. It's warm and overcast and quite windy so a quiet afternoon was had.
