Day 22, vanlife, the Coronet Loop Trail

Day 22, Vanlife,  February 10th. Arrowtown Coronet Loop Trail ride.

Today we did the Coronet Loop Trail, a 50km mountain bike trail starting and finishing in Arrowtown near Queenstown.  The weather was ideal with light cloud and very little wind and although we did the loop on our e bikes, I'm knackered!

Because we are still learning the range of our bikes, we rode the full loop in eco mode. While this gives some assist, it still requires a fair amount of effort on the climbs and today there was about 1500m of it! I managed a good crash in the first 3km resulting in a few scrapes and bruises and then I managed another bash into some rock in the last 3km! Other than that though, the ride was stunning.

We started with a climb out of Arrowtown up to the Coronet Ski Field Road before crossing the Skippers Road saddle and dropping down some sweet single track. Actually the whole 50km is single track aside from about 6km on the Macetown Road just before returning to Arrowtown.  It is a real back country ride and not to be taken lightly, that's for sure. River crossings, steep drop offs, tussock covered mountains, and some challenging climbing make for an excellent day out but even on e bikes we were out there for nearly 6 hours. We did stop for lunch and snacks, photos and to rest to be fair, but still, it's a big day!

We were very pleased to get all the way round on the e bikes with plenty of juice to spare. Might have a rest day tomorrow!
