Day 179, December 31st, San Diego
Wow! Today we spent most of the day on board the Midway, a decommissioned aircraft carrier now a museum in the San Diego Harbour. I have to say this was the best museum I have ever been to. There were retired pilots and crewmen on board who volunteer their time to provide information about the ship and how it worked (see the picture above from the Bridge with our guide). There are fighter jets and helicopters you can climb into, guided tours through the bridge, self-guided walking tours through many parts of the ship, and a short movie about the Battle of Midway after which the ship is named. There is a feature length movie about this battle which we, by chance, watched while on the cruise. It was a great watch.

Regardless of what we might say about the US military, they have guts, that's for sure. Seeing what the pilots and crew do almost in real life was enough to significantly up our respect for their work. If you are ever in San Diego, we highly recommend a visit to the Midway.
We had planned to do the Maritime Museum today as well, but we spent so much time on the Midway we ran out of steam so might do that tomorrow.
