Days 175 - 177, December 27th to 29th, At sea and a return to San Diego
Our final two full days on board the Koningsdam were spent making the most of the down time. We slept, ate, watched movies, read our books and gazed out to sea. We also did numerous laps of the Promenade Deck in the hope of burning off some of the calories we consumed in the various eating establishments on board.

When we finally arrived back in San Diego, we were happy to disembark feeling refreshed and rested. In order to completely reverse that feeling, we decided to walk to our hotel about 10km away. Fortunately we had little gear with us and only had two relatively small backpacks to carry. To be fair, they were starting to feeling pretty heavy pretty quickly! We got a good workout!
We are staying at the Travelodge Sea World (which is still 5km from Sea World). It is a wee step down from the cruise ship but still a fair step up from the tent. It has a fridge and a microwave and a bathroom and was pretty much the cheapest we could find. The old budget has not stretched as far as we had hoped with the declining exchange rates!
We have a few days here to explore San Diego so will begin our adventures properly tomorrow. Today our walk took us around the Bay and through a park with a memorial to all the submarines that were lost during World War II. Very interesting and very thought-provoking. San Diego is, of course, home to the largest US Naval base in the country so plenty to look at in that respect.
Off to the zoo tomorrow while the weather holds. It is forecast to be wet for the remainder of the week!
