Day 174, December 26th, Puerto Vallarta

Oh an early start today! Clocks went forward another hour overnight and we had an excursion booked so we were due on the Pier shortly after we docked in Puerto Vallarta at 8am. Hard to wake up when the bed is so comfortable!!

Today we did a self drive jeep excursion into the villages behind Puerto Vallarta before finishing at a beach for a swim. The drive didn't really require a 4wd jeep although there were a couple of short climbs on a dirt road. Still, we visited a wee rural village then went to a tequila factory to see how tequila is made and to consume large numbers of shots of tequila. I was the sober driver so gave my share to Gordon and our co-passengers. Gordon must have had 8 shots of the stuff! Still, everyone was surprisingly sober if not fit to drive.

From here it was off to the beach where we had a lovely swim with the pelicans and got to see a bunch of baby turtles that had been born overnight and were set to be released tonight. The sea was lovely and warm and even I went in! We did get in a wee bit of trouble when we were late back to the jeeps after our swim though! Overall a fun excursion, the highlight of which was the experience of trying to drive in a convoy of 6 jeeps in the Mexican traffic! Hilarious and well worth it. I should mention that the jeeps were all stick shift which was amusing for us familiar with driving stick watching those who were less experienced.

After this wee trip, we popped into Walmart to see what differed between here and the US and discovered nothing at all differed. Then back to the boat for a late lunch and another afternoon of relaxing and reading. All that weight we lost riding is now largely back in place!
