Day 173, Christmas Day, December 25th, Mazatlan, Mexico

We were in Port early and with nothing booked today, we headed off on foot to explore Mazatlan.

First stop was El Faro de Mazatlan, the Lighthouse.  A steep climb took us to a glass-bottomed viewing platform with views back to Mazarlan and out to sea. It was a beautiful day and the views were worth the hike. It cost 30 pesos to go out on the platform but on our way there we passed two people from the boat who had been up but hadn't used their tickets. Lucky us got given them both!

After the Lighthouse we wandered around the coast and into the Old Town and to see the Cathedral. The narrow, cobbled streets were very quiet given that it was Christmas Day. Even the Cathedral was quiet. It was nice wandering around and our route back to the ship took us through a more populated area where we had great fun watching kids out with their new presents of roller skates, bicycles and scooters.

After a late lunch of hamburgers and chips, we spent the afternoon lazing around the ship on loungers with a view across the city and Cathedral.  Then it was time for Christmas dinner. This was a bit of a conundrum as it was formal dress again! So we got dressed up in exactly the same clothes as last night and headed for the restaurant. Scallops, roast turkey, plum pudding and pumpkin pie. Excellent!
