Days 164 - 167, December 16th to 19th, Fountain of Youth RV Park and Spa
Days 164 to 166 continued pretty much as usual with hikes, mountainbiking, soaks in the hot tubs and more disc golf. Gordon also spent Sunday morning out in a side by side cruising the off road vehicle trails in the vicinity much to his pleasure! Sunday afternoon was spent washing the bikes and bags in preparation for our trip home.
Day 167, today ( Monday), was my birthday so we had the opportunity to do something special. We joined the FOY hiking group to head into the Painted Mountains not far from FOY to do a slot canyon hike. Think ladders, ropes, squeezes and scrambles through the desert. Nine of us headed off into the canyon where we negotiated 10km of trail where the consequences of a missed foot were dire! It was great fun and a great way to spend our last day in the desert. The photos capture a little of some of the terrain we traversed.
On our way back we stopped for a late lunch at our now favorite Mexican restaurant before heading back to FOY for a soak in the hot tubs and ice cream for dessert.
Tomorrow we head back to San Diego to start the final part of our North American adventure. After two days back in Vista with friends, we will be leaving the bikes and on Thursday joining a week long cruise to the Sea of Cortez for Christmas! After 6 weeks in the tent, we can't wait to sleep in a real bed again!
