Day 127, back on the bikes heading south

Day 127, November 10th, 61.72km and 409m climb, Vista to del Mar warmshowers

Back on the bikes again today. The weather has resolved completely and while there is a cool wind, it is really ideal riding weather. We retraced our steps back to the coast and again had a lovely day wandering along the beaches and back streets as we headed south. It is a stunning coastline and we are very lucky with our timing. Ordinarily the streets and cycleways are jam packed with cars and pedestrians and bikes but at present they are mostly very quiet as everyone hunkers down for winter. While we think it's beautifully warm and are in short sleeves, the usual attire around us is leggings and puffer jackets! To be fair, we are the same come evening, but we are enjoying the daytime temperatures.

We did a quick detour off route up to REI to grab a couple of things including new cycle shorts for me, new cleats for my shoes and a couple of tubes of Nuun rehydration tabs (laced with caffeine for me).

After this it was a relatively short hop to our hosts place for the night where we have taken over the lounge of their one bedroom apartment right next to the sea. After gathering on the cliffs to watch the sunset we enjoyed a lovely evening with Kevin and Connie at a local Mexican restaurant sharing war stories from the bikes and building houses. Very pleasant indeed!

Off through San Diego tomorrow and with a bit of luck we will start our new route called the So Cal Desert Ramble.
