Day 124, heading to friends

Day 124, November 7th, 56.05km and 443m climb, San Clemente Inn to Vista

I'm not quite sure how to describe today.  Interesting, variable, different, slightly odd, damp and fun all spring to mind. The first part of the day saw us travel along the San Onofre State Park Beach which the government leased from the military for 50 years back in the 1970s. There is also a nuclear power station along the path to keep things interesting.

After a brief but heavy rain shower, we then entered Interstate 5 for 12 kilometers.  It was very busy and loud but the shoulder was huge so it was not too bad all things considered. American citizens are permitted to ride directly through Camp Pendleton but not us foreigners unfortunately so we get the Interstate!

Once we were off I5, we turned left up a bicycle path heading inland toward Vista. After some navigational issues trying to get from a supermarket back onto the bike path, we eventually made it to my friend's place in Vista. Peter and I used to orienteer together back in the day and have many mutual friends and acquaintances so lots of fun catching up. We are going to hunker down here for a couple of days while some bad weather passes.
