Day 117, October 31st, Grand Canyon
Today we had a lovely day exploring the Grand Canyon area on our bikes. We booked a second night at the campground so we would have more time to explore and all the areas accessible by shuttle bus only are also accessible by bike so off we went.

Firstly we went east and took in the views across to north rim. The Arizona bikepacking race is currently on and while we were riding back from the viewpoint, we saw Alexandra Hochin heading toward the hiking trail. Very exciting! She was about to pull her bike apart, put it on her back, hike down, cross the Colorado River and climb back up the other side all without her bike touching the ground because mountainbikes are not allowed on those trails! Crazy stuff!

After lunch we headed west and had great fun loading our bikes on the front of a shuttle bus to get out to the end of the route and then ride back taking in all the view points at a leisurely pace. Lots of wow moments again today. The river is about 1.6km below where we look into the canyon and just looks tiny. So many different layers of rock and all different colors drop almost vertically at times into the canyon. We could stand for ages just looking at the view.
We headed back to camp and had a pleasant evening sharing dinner with Alan who we met out on his bike today too. Off toward LA tomorrow.
