Day 104, trail angels

Day 104, October 18th, 54.1km and 700m climb, informal campground at Dome Lakes State Wildlife Area to informal campsite on Carnero Pass

It was minus 8 degrees this morning.  That is really a bit too cold to be in a tent! We survived (I was ok but Gordon was too cold) but even our big water bags were frozen solid. Not much fun to be honest but as soon as we get into the sun and start riding it's just spectacular and we don't want to stop!

Today was a climb up and over the Divide again on Cochetopa Pass, down the other side and about three quarters of the way up Carnero Pass. Absolutely stunning vista's with both climbs wandering up canyons with the most interesting rock formations.

Gordon was struggling today, possibly due to the cold night so we didn't make it over the second Pass as hoped but have a lovely wee spot on the side of the road although it will be cold again. Not long after we had got the tent up, two camper vans stopped by for a visit who turned out to be real trail angels leaving us with fresh water and two Cokes - bliss! Thanks guys, it was a real pleasure!

It sounds like our weather window is coming to an end by the weekend with snow forecast to close the high passes south of here. Del Norte may be our last port of call on the Divide! We'll make a call in the next day or two.
