Day 105, just wow!

Day 105, October 19th, 67.6km and 633m climb, informal campsite on Carnero Pass to Del Norte RV park

Today was just wow! Every corner there was yet another spectacular view. We started out by finishing off the climb up Carnero Pass after another cold night. (Fortunately we had sun on the campsite early so that helps a lot.)

From the top we dropped down through a stunning gorge with huge cliffs and a winding gravel road. We then dropped out onto a bigger road into a headwind. We stopped for some early lunch (Cliff Bars for breakfast are great in the icy weather but don't satisfy for long) before eventually turning onto a road that took us through Elephant Rocks. More stunning vistas.

To finish the day, the route took us down a rocky, sandy dual track that was super fun. The only yucky part was a 10km grovel around the airport coming into Del Norte.  Gordon almost demanded a motel room for the night along this stretch but I managed to convince him another night in the tent at a campground would be fine! So we are tucked up in the tent with fresh laundry done and some decisions to make tomorrow.
