Day 92, October 6th. rest day Steamboat Springs
Day 93, October 7th, 53.44km and 757m climb, Steamboat springs to Informal campsite Lynx Pass
Our rest day involved two new tires, more sealant in the old tires we are keeping, a new helmet for Gordon and new shoes for me, a load of washing and finally some grocery shopping. I'm not sure that rest day is the right way to describe these days off that we have! We were ever so tempted to stay another night at the wonderful Rabbit Ears Motel (highly recommended) but the weather is perfect for riding and we are feeling better too so we decided to push on.

Today was lovely. A gentle, sealed climb for 20 odd km before we hit dirt and climbed up a gorgeous river to a dam at Stagecoach Reservoir. There we were treated to several kilometers of single track around the lake before starting the climb up to Lynx Pass.
We'd had such a big breakfast at the motel (Continental Breakfast included) that it was 1pm before we stopped for lunch. Bagels with cheese, a cookie and a peach and we got back on the road. The climb was steady but gentle and we made the campsite around 3pm. Unfortunately the water is murky so we will not use it. We have sufficient to get to the next campsite in the morning which is supposed to have potable water. We had salad and cheese for dinner so no water required.

We are back in bear country again so the bags are hung. There is no evidence of bears here but better safe than sorry. Apparently two cubs were hit by a truck a couple of days ago just outside Steamboat so they are definitely around. At least they are not Grizzlies. There is evidence of beavers at work though so we have moved the bikes well away from the gnawed trees!
We will finish the climb up over Lynx tomorrow.
