Day 90, glorious downhill

Day 90, October 4th, 33.81km and 292m climb, Little Sandstone campsite to Ladder Ranch

Finally an easier day! Just a short one today to Ladder Ranch where we have grabbed a cabin. It was a beautiful riding day, calm and sunny and the ride was mostly downhill! Joy!

First up we rode through Aspen Alley which is a narrow lane of 120 year old Aspens that are in the process of dying and regenerating. Aspens clone themselves from their root systems and are like a single organism spread under the ground. Kind of like in the movie Avatar!

From there we hit sealed road and quickly made our way down the hill and into Colorado for the first time. We decided to take the Columbine Alternate so turned off onto a dirt road that took us along the Colorado Wyoming border to Ladder Ranch. The cabin we are staying is in Colorado but the ranch on the other side of the road is in Wyoming!

We spent the afternoon resting as we are both still recovering from colds and the lungs and legs are not yet working fully as they should so we are trying to be kind to ourselves a little. Steamboat Springs tomorrow for a couple of nights to get new tires on the bikes. Also the zips on our tent fly are playing up and seeing as Big Agnes tents are from Steamboat Springs, we might pop in for a visit.

Tough conditions for you. Glad you are hitching the odd ride and taking rest days.

You’ll love Steamboat! Hope there’s some snow on the mountain! How long will you be there? I have a friend that lives there. Text your answer to me, 706-714-8992
