Day 84, September 28th, 55.2km and 589m climb, informal campsite Lander Cutoff Road to Informal campsite South Pass City road
Today could only be described as undulating. Think of a Sea serpent with big humps and that would kind of capture what today was like. We were on the road just before 9am after a nice wake up in the sun. No frost overnight and the tent was dry. Breakfast was breakfast bars and this seemed to work ok. We had a banana between us for morning tea then lunch on the side of the road around 12.

We restocked our water supplies and had a wash about 15km along as there was no water at the campsite. The weather was again hot with a mostly tail wind and smooth gravel. You would think in these conditions we could make good distance but it was not to be. At the 55km mark was a lovely wee campsite that was our intended destination for the night unless we felt we could push on to Atlantic City. Despite Gordon having a much better day today, neither of us wanted to so the tent went up and we settled in. Another dry site but we have plenty of water to get us through the last few kilometers to Atlantic City in the morning. From there we might have to make some tough calls, the weather is not looking ideal for the next few days so we will have to decide if we wait, push on or consider option c as a last resort and shuttle around.

I should mention the environment we were riding through today. It reminded me of the Nevis Valley, except about 600 times bigger. It kind of looked like the moon in places as well. Sagebrush as far as the eye could see with rocks, bare dirt and the occasional dry water course with the odd tree. We saw several Antelope today as well as sheep (!) and cows. Everyday there is something different to look at and invariably something that makes us go wow.
