Day 48, 23 August, rest day, Columbia Falls

Day 49, 24 August, 45.75km and 289m climb, Columbia Falls to Warmshowers host in Big Fork

Today was a very easy day as it was tar sealed most of the way and there was really only one wee climb. It was quite an interesting ride as there were farmlets and mansions and trailer homes for much of the way so we have had a good old look at the differing types of housing around. We were also passed by 20 odd riders doing a supported version of the Divide ride. There was a very fast group at the front who went past peleton style and then some individuals who were clearly just out to enjoy the ride. They all went past faster than us!

Just before we reached the end point of our ride today, it started to rain so we took shelter under the front porch of a lovely looking Cafe that just happens to be closed on Wednesdays! As we sat there, our Warmshowers host recognized us from our picture and pulled in to say hi on her way to the supermarket. This was a lovely welcome so after we finished our lunch we headed down the road to our hosts' beautiful house.

Our wonderful host Valerie (Kevin is away) has fed us, watered us and showered us and we are now tucked up in their wee Airstream Camper. It was a nice stroke of luck to be staying here as we hardly got wet at all from the rain and had a lovely afternoon chatting with Valerie. Gordon went for a walk with her and the dogs and unsuccessfully tried his hand at some fishing with the neighbours kiddies too. All in all a lovely day.
