Day 28, people along the way

Day 28, 3 August, 47km and 321m climb, Kimberley to Johnson Lake rec site.

We had a gentle morning,  starting with the included breakfast of the most delicious fruit, cereal, boiled eggs, yoghurt and chocolate and walnut scones. We even managed to take some for lunch! We cant recommend Downtown Kimberley Accommodation enough, its a great wee place with only 4 rooms, shared lounge and great owners. Next time i'll be back in winter!

We did a quick food shop and then went to the bike shop to pump up our tyres and the outdoor shop to replace a drink bottle. Gordon spent time talking with the locals including one who we'd met near the top of Grey Creek Pass. Steve insisted on getting us a Lifestraw bottle to take with us which I know Gordon will get a lot of use from. Thanks Steve, you are a real trail angel!

It was 11 by the time we headed out of town. We have decide to head north to Banff directly from Kimberley rather than from Fernie. We will come back to Fernie from Banff on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route and this is a quicker option which will also allow us a couple of days in Banff.

Today was a quick 47km along the highway with a lovely tail wind to help us along. The traffic wasn't particularly heavy but it was still nice to drop off the road and down to our campsite on the lake. Here we met Ethan, 14 year old redneck with a handgun, rifle, Rambo trousers and a knife. He promised to keep an eye on our stuff. Fingers crossed that's all he does with it!

Assuming we are still alive in the morning,  we will head north taking forest service roads as much as we can. We will be off grid from lunchtime tomorrow until we reach Banff in 4 days time.
