Day 27, August 2nd, 62km and 653m climb, Grey Creek Pass stealth camp to Kimberley.
We woke early but it turned out to be late. We have indeed crossed a time zone and what we thought was 7am was 8am so by the time we got going, it was probably 10am! Anyway, we packed up slowly, had a peaceful breakfast by the river, the bears left us in peace (still haven't seen any), we loaded the bikes and headed out.

Today was supposed to be downhill all the way to Kimberley, yeah right! To be fair, overall it was downhill but there were a lot of 'undulations' as I call them. The road started out rocky and rutted but improved as the day went on as we dropped to a lower elevation. We had camped at around 1600m and are now at 1100ish. Some lovely scenery today but we were a bit perturbed by the dense smoke we could see ahead of us and wondered if we were heading into trouble. Fortunately it turned out to be smoke from a fire south of Penticton where we had been about 10 days ago.

We had lunch by a lake we passed and pushed on into the afternoon. After stopping at a camping ground 10km short of Kimberley we decided $32 for a long drop and a steep climb were not on the cards so pushed through to Kimberley with a short stretch of lovely single track. We are staying in a lodge with a real bed and bathroom. First time we've slept in a proper bed in over 3 weeks! What fun! We had thought we might stay in a motel once a week but it is mid summer here and the prices are high so we've been happy to camp. This place is costing us $100 CAD for the night and we think it well worth it!
