Day 57, vanlife, March 15, Lake to Lake Te Anau

After a quiet night, our Sounds 2 Sounds friends, Rob and Tania, departed early and we weren't far behind them. Today we had a video doctors appointment for Gordon and the need to pick up more medication from the Te Anau pharmacy for him. So in between these two jobs we headed off down the Lake 2 Lake Trail that connects Te Anau with Manapouri. This is a lovely ride (aside from the 4km of main road in the middle) that winds along the Te Anau river through beech forest and farmland.

Unfortunately we didn't quite manage the full ride as Gordon's e bike battery was getting low. We have beennwithout power for three nights so haven't had the opportunity to top the batteries up. We made up for it though by spending some time at the bird Sanctuary along the trail where we saw takahe (a very rare and endangered native bird), kaka and kakariki. The takahe are particularly special given how rare they are. We have seen them in the wild on the Heaphy Track near Nelson but we have recently heard that those ones have not established a breeding colony so that's sad.

Tonight we are at a New Zealand Motor Caravan Association campsite in Manapouri. Hot showers and power are both welcome. We will stay here again tomorrow probably as we need to pop back to Te Anau to pick up the rest of Gordon's medication.
