Day 4, Vanlife, Collingwood, South Island, New Zealand
We reluctantly headed back to civilisation today. Cobb Valley is beautiful, remote and has plenty to do. We will definitely be back again. We stopped just before we got out to the main road to ride backwards up the Barron Flat track. Barron Flat is a 4 to 6 hour ride and one of the few tracks that you can take mountainbikes on in a national park. Much of it is within Kahurangi National Park in the northwest of the South Island. Cobb Valley is deep within the park as well. The ride is usually started high up in the park and finishes down where we started, but because we are on e bikes, we decided to ride in from the bottom. We rode 700 vertical meters up a 4wd track but unfortunately took a wrong turn and ended up at a locked gate and had to trace our steps back. By the time we got to what we thought was the correct turn, we had had enough so decided it was a job for another day. Even so, it was a fun ride for a couple of hours with stunning views down the Takaka Valley. Luckily my damaged hand from yesterday did ok even though it is pretty swollen!

From here it was a relatively short drive to Takaka township where we stocked up on a couple of staple items before heading to Collingwood. We are staying at the Collingwood camp ground right on the beach. It's a lovely wee spot with views north to Farewell Spit. Great facilities, hot showers and power to recharge the bikes.
Tomorrow we plan to do a ride called the Aorere Goldfields before heading off grid again.
