Days 169 and 170, December 21st and 22nd, San Diego
After a busy day dismantling bikes and sorting through gear on the Wednesday, Thursday arrived and it was time to head off to the port to catch the big boat. We dropped the rental car off and walked a couple of kilometers to board the Koningsdam. Boarding was quick and easy and we found our stateroom on the bottom level right in the middle. As I write this we are being rocked to sleep by a Jazz band that sounds like it is in the next room. Guess that's what you get for the cheapest possible interior room on the boat!

That aside, our first hour on the boat was spent sampling the lunch spread, followed by a wee lounge by the pool. We then decided to test the jogging track for an hour or so but got distracted by the pizza bar. That was a brief diversion and we spent an hour or so confusing my tracker by walking around the track while the ship headed off at 12km per hour down the Harbour into the sunset. I've never walked so fast!

A shower followed this before we dressed for dinner, both of us regally attired in a selection of free clothing we had obtained from the FOY free shop. Dinner was delicious. We had been booked in for 8.15pm but I got the time wrong and we turned up just before 7pm. This did not phase anyone at all and we were promptly seated, served and dispatched. Gordon had roast chicken and I had tostadas (sticking with the Mexican theme). We followed this with ice cream sundaes and coffee. We are now tucked up in bed watching a movie to drown out the bass notes which I suspect will go on for quite some time!
The bed is large, has sheets and pillows and does not require us to climb up off the floor. The bathroom is delicious with fresh towels and free soap and shampoo. Pure bliss. Who needs a window really!
