Day 144, back to civilization again

Day 144, November 27, 60km and 96m climb, freedom camp just outside Joshua Tree to Salton Sea State Park campground

We were up before the sun again after a quiet night in the canyon. We had several kilometers of rough downhill to finish off before we popped out onto a sealed road right in the middle of a gun shooting range! Even at 7am there were people firing some pretty dodgy looking machinery from handguns to sniper rifles! We didn't stick around!

By 9am we were in Coachella,  the infamous location of the music festival of the same name. Fortunately it wasn't on this weekend and so McDonald's was not too busy for us to stop by for breakfast and wifi. In fact their wifi was so good I managed to upload 5 days worth of posts on the blog in the shortest time frame yet!

We did a quick food shop, topped up our water at the bus stop (check out the photo of the local bus stop, they were all the same that we could see!), and then started another solid road slog back to the Salton Sea. A brief stop back at the bakery in Mecca again and eventually we made it to the Salton Sea State Park campground.  The website told us it was full but there is not a soul here other than us and a couple of campers over the way. It's a beautiful spot. The only downside is that the showers take tokens which you have to get at the ranger station which is closed. No shower for us as the cold water won't run either! It's been 5 days without a shower and we are both a bit stinky! RV park tomorrow night I think!
