Day 137, tar seal today!

Day 137, November 20th, 33km and 294m climb, Oticillo Wells OHV park to Borrego Springs RV park.

Well it was an interesting night! Karaoke,  motorbikes, off-roaders,  music, horns...you name it, it was all go including at 4 o'clock in the morning! Funnily enough when we got up at 6, there was noone about!

Today's ride was a tar seal bash to Borrego Springs, a more sophisticated town than Oticillo Wells with some likening it to Palm Springs before Hollywood found it. Suits us anyway. We will spend a day here tomorrow exploring and catching up on some washing.

If the rest of the town is as interesting as the ride in through the sculpture park was today then it should be a good day. The sculpture park comprised the most stunning metal fabricated life size animals including mammoths, Sabre tooth tigers, horses and eagles. In the distance there were also some dinosaurs. The workmanship and detail was impressive and the desert backdrop stunning.

On arrival into town we spent some time in the town square brewing up a coffee for Gordon and chatting with Russell, a teacher from San Diego, who has a family house here. The town square was green grass which is pretty unusual! A quick food shop and we headed off to our campsite for the night at a RV park and golf course. Stunning place with a swimming pool and hot tubs as well, but as usual, the loos are at least 200m away from the tent sites! Can't complain too much as it is a lot quieter than last night!

The state park campground was fully booked and cost nearly as much as here anyway! For interest, it costs between $25 and $60 for a tent site at an RV park. Tonight is $40 or around NZ$65. You can see why our budget is only just enough even when averaged out with all the nights we freedom camp! The exchange rate is terrible!

Crikey, those camping fees are eye-watering! And as for riding through all that sand - torture! So admire you two.
