Day 134, November 17, rest day and 4km hike, Aqua Caliente.
We got to sleep in this morning! Well, sort of, we were awake at the usual time of 6 but at least we didn't have to get out of bed!

The shop opened at 9am so we were standing outside right on time! Not a huge selection but enough to see us through the next two or three days when we will hopefully reach civilization again. We bought a dozen eggs and had several for breakfast which was a nice treat!
By the time we'd done the shopping and had breakfast, it was nearly lunchtime so we decided to have lunch before we headed off on our hike. So breakfast morphed into lunch and then we headed off into the desert.
We did a 2 mile hike with a couple of detours on a trail called Moonlight Canyon. It was nice to slow down and take a closer look at the plants as we passed. Ocotillo trees abound along with cacti, agave and date palms in the gullies with water in them. It was like walking through a botanical garden, just beautiful. We also saw a small herd of bighorn sheep which are very endangered here.

Once back at camp, we took advantage of the good water supply and precooked our dinner for tomorrow night so all we need to do is reheat it as we will be dry camping somewhere in the desert en route to a place called Ocotillo Wells. We are really looking forward to challenging ourselves on this 4x4 track over the next two days.
