Day 111, Courthouse Rock campsite to Hanksville

Really just a travel and rest day today. We woke to a stunning morning with a hot air balloon floating by, skilfully navigating the hills immediately around us. Breakfast was toasted bagels with strawberry cream cheese, fresh bananas and blueberries,  yum!

We headed off along the highways including a stint along I70 again. I can't quite get used to the fact that I can't just stop anywhere I like and take a photo so I've got Gordon leaning out the window taking shots, hoping he doesn't drop the camera! Most of today was very desert-like but there was definitely some interesting cliffs and vistas worth shooting.

We are overnighting in Hanksville which has a lovely wee RV Park with everything you need for $20 including hot showers and a restaurant.  We splashed out for dinner and Gordon finally got the ice cream he has been craving for the past two weeks!

It was a really enjoyable evening as earlier in the afternoon, two bikepackers on the Western Wildlands route arrived and we connected. Daniel and Heidi joined us at the restaurant and we shared stories and info about our respective trips. I'm starting to miss being on the bike but with the temperatures forecast to drop to minus 9 overnight in the area we are heading, I'm glad we've got the van! Always great to catch up with fellow riders!
