Days 101 and 102, rest followed by an up day!

Day 101, October 15th, rest day Salida

Day 102, October 16th, 64km and 1115m climb, Salida to Sargents

After a quiet day off in Salida where the only thing we really did was pick up some more medication for Gordon and watch a movie, we were ready to hit the road.

Today we climbed Marshall Pass and crossed the Divide again. Marshall Pass was back up over 3000m, topping out at 3,304. And we used to get excited when we got over 2000m!

It was cold today, overcast and breezy. The climb started pretty much straight out of the gate and all 1,115m of the climbing we did today was in the first 35km. But it was lovely! Another rail trail gradient that had us two thirds of the way up by lunchtime and the sun breaking through as we reached the top. From there it was 28km of solid downhill to Sargent where we have grabbed a tent site and anticipate a minus 3 degree night!

President Biden flew over us today too (well you never know)!

We were fascinated by the beaver dams we saw today. No beavers but some impressive architecture on both sides of the pass. Still no moose though much to Gordon's disappointment.

The weather is set to resume its fine pattern tomorrow for what looks like 4 or 5 days so fingers crossed we should safely make it to Del Norte before reevaluating. A few hills to get through between here and there though!

Love the beaver dams. True understanding of “busy like a never”.
Keep going you two. An inspiration.
