Day 80, September 24th, 40km and 300m climb, Strawberry Safety Shelter to Whiskey Grove campsite
We woke to a lovely warm cabin as Gordon had been up during the night to keep the fire stoked. Just as well as there was a heavy frost outside! Luxury inside though!

Today was a relatively easy day of just 40km down to the Forest Service campsite called Whiskey Grove. The day was stunning with beautiful clear blue skies and some gorgeous outlooks. The downside was the road surface which was nearly as slow going down as it was going up! Rocky, rutted, jarring dirt road for the whole 40km! Very little traffic, only a few ATVs and hardy souls in utes. Beautifully remote.
We contemplated pushing through to Pinedale but that was a further 50km and we have arranged a warmshowers host for tomorrow night so are not in any great rush. The campsite is pleasant and the potable water is still on so we have enjoyed a quiet afternoon in the sunshine reading our books.
This will be our final night in grizzly country. Apparently a couple of grizzlies feasted on some cows not far from here recently so although the locals assure us they are around but never see them, we continue to be wary! The campsites we have stayed in throughout Wyoming and Idaho have all got bearboxes.
We almost got into a Trump versus Biden conversation with some gentlemen in an ATV today but managed to divert the topic before we got too far along. It is best to assume all people are Trump supporters until proven otherwise in these parts it seems!
