Day 74, September 18th, 81.79km and 375m climb, West Yellowstone KOA to Warm River campsite
It was time to say farewell to Yellowstone and head back toward the Great Divide route. We had a wee climb back up over Targhee Pass and back into Idaho before following US highway 20 toward the route. We did some of the route today but also took a big detour to ride the Mesa Scenic Byway before finishing up back on the route.

We spent some time at the Upper Mesa Falls which were spectacular and passed the first ski area in Idaho established in the 1940s (now nothing but trees and perhaps some vague runs).
A big kilometer day today but really only because it was mostly sealed and mostly downhill. We are glad we detoured from the main route because by all accounts it is a sandy ATV trail that after the last few days of rain would not have been much fun. I also think we might be getting a bit soft! Still, plenty more challenges for us on the route as we head south and it's nice to be flexible to be able to visit places off the route.

Tonight we are camped beside the Warm River at a forest service campsite. It's a beautiful wee spot as many of these campsites seem to be!
Tomorrow we are back on trail as we head into the final two days of this section of the route. I think we may enter Wyoming tomorrow. If not tomorrow it will be the day after so this has been just another quick visit in Idaho.
