Day 66, September 10th, 56km and 627m climb, Bannack to Medicine Lodge Valley stealth camp
Another super cold morning again today with the water bottles frozen along with toes and fingers for the first few miles. Today warmed up a lot more quickly than yesterday thankfully and it wasn't long before the layers slowly came off. For me, these cold mornings mean merino t shirt, polypro long sleeve, synthetic puffer vest, synthetic puffer jacket and wind proof jacket on top. Winter gloves with liners as well. The bottom half is not so well treated with windproof socks, cycle shorts with knee warmers and overtrou. Gordon pulled out his wind jacket and winter gloves but stuck with the shorts. Oh he did pull on his winter sox too.

Today started out with undulating gravel hills generally tending down with uncomfortable corrugations, a short section of tar seal and undulating gravel hills tending up which was ok until the last 4km when the surface deteriorated significantly. We did try to book a cabin for tonight but couldn't get hold of the right person so gave up. Instead we are at nice stealth camp by a creek. Oh, and we saw an Antelope today!

The highlight of the day though occurred this evening when trying to hang the bags. Tommy (in his 60s) scaled a tree while Michelle (also in his 60s) pulled the rope from the opposite direction to try and get the bags high enough. At one point I was standing in the middle with Tommy up the tree, Michelle on the other side of the gully both speaking rapidly in French. It was somewhat surreal right at that moment as dusk was falling in the middle of the Montana high country!
Tomorrow we cross the Divide again.
