Day 38, August 13th, 50.2km and 515m climb, Weary River Rec Site to Elkford
A little more rain overnight but another beautiful, warm day. We started out back on the Elk River Forest Service Road which meandered its way down the Elk Valley (still no elks or bears) with a few undulations. We stopped for lunch about 35km in just before two wee hills ahead. We dried out the tent and figured it would be a quick skip into Elkford for the afternoon. Hahahahaha. Approximately 8km from Elkford we took a hard right hand turn up onto the Koko Claims road. Approximately 1km up (read chunky rocks, push/grovel up) we took a left hand turn onto the Elk Trail. This was the sweetest 7km of single track all the way into Elkford. It climbed up for a ways and then skirted around some gullies before winding its way through bermed goodness all the way back down again. Even on fully loaded bikes it was super good fun! Only hard part really is the requirement to sing/yell/ring bell throughout to keep the bears away. My bear lullabies were not very good but obviously effective as still no bears! My voice was getting very tired by the end of this section!

We saw a lot of other cyclists on the road today, both going past us and going the other way. Gordon unfortunately left his front roll open as we left camp today so I swung back to find his lost stuff. Luckily, two fellas coming behind us had seen his stuff and I was able to find it easily. That's one of the good things of having so many people around!
