Day 13 Climbing again!

Published on 24 July 2022 at 08:30

19 July, Penticton to Adra Tunnel, 33.5km and 638m climb, 33 degrees

This morning we farewelled Carla as she headed off in the direction we had come with dire warnings from us about soft sandy tracks and steep climbs. Im sure she will be fine!

Although we were packed up early today, we needed to visit the bike shop which didn't open until 9am. We also needed to charge our devices as the campground we were at did not let us use power for the $25 per night charge. So it was off to Tim Hortons we went for coffee and an all round recharge. Once that wee task was complete we headed to the bike shop where Gordon bought some new shorts in the hope of improving his bum. By the time we'd done all this it was pushing 11am and we knew it would be another hot one.

Back onto the KVR we headed and began the climb up into the mountains. Stunning views back across Lake Okanagan showed just how much climbing we were doing. We had a long break to try and escape the heat and should have actually stopped at that point for the night. Unfortunately some people coming down the trail said there was a great place to camp only a few km along so we thought we'd get a few more miles under the belt. The great place to camp was great except for the no camping sign so we pushed on. We are now stealth camping with an early start planned.

We found only one spot for a water refill today and have a further 15km to go in the morning for water.  Fortunately we have carried enough but we believe tomorrow night will be another dry camp so we will refill at Chute Lake. Another full day of climbing tomorrow.
