Days 36 - 45, skilife, February 24 - March 4.
What a fabulous week. It was so worth going even for such a short time. Our first day on skis we spent familiarizing ourselves with the resort and being back on skis. It was also bitterly cold at minus 25 degrees so I was super thankful for my heated boots!

Over the six days we skied, we explored much of the mountain but by no means all of it. It is ranked as one of the more challenging ski areas in North America and I was definitely out of my comfort zone in some places initially. Of course the more I skied the steep stuff, the more comfortable I became so we kept doing it.

The temperatures warmed up across the week and we had a daily discussion over how many layers to wear. After wearing nearly everything I brought with me on the first day, this gradually decreased to just two puffer jackets under my jacket and one pair of long johns!
Ben is an excellent skier and I just followed along trying to keep up. A few tips here and there helped me to keep improving.

Our accommodation was ski in ski out so right on the slopes, making it easy to go home for lunch. It's a lovely wee village and I'd definitely ski there again.
Our trip home was almost flawless aside from a late departure out of Calgary which meant a run through the terminal in Vancouver to just catch our flight to Auckland. Luckily the pilot held the flight for 10 minutes so all 14 of us doing the transfer could make it. The joy of numbers. Made it back to Queenstown early evening where Gordon met us in the van. Dropped Ben off in Wanaka and found a spot to park up for the night near Luggate. Nice to be back in the cosy van again.
Gordon meanwhile, spent the week down on the deer farm with Sally working. Feeding out, driving a tractor and repairing broken things seems to have occupied the week!
